As a Well-Being Coach and also someone who is in alcohol recovery, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of leaning into discomfort and embracing vulnerability.

My early days of alcohol recovery felt like one long uncomfortable and vulnerable moment, as I had used alcohol for years to numb out everything I didn’t want to feel.

But I didn’t give up, I sat in the discomfort.

Let me tell you though – it was SO worth it!

Here’s the thing – our brains want to keep us safe, which can be a good AND bad thing!

On one hand, our brain helps us survive, stay out of danger, etc.

On the other hand, our brain can also be very clever at working against us, seeking comfort and stability over change and growth.

We are creatures of habit, so it makes sense!

Creating ongoing opportunity though to stretch ourselves, to learn, and to evolve can truly become a superpower of anyone that is willing to do the work.

The problem is many of us get so caught up in our daily routines, and just focus on what has to get done externally.

We lose sight of ways we can continue to evolve and stretch ourselves in a way that feels authentic and positive.

With a little accountability, discipline and belief in ourselves though, we can all achieve great things!

Embracing vulnerability means being willing to show up authentically, even when it’s scary.

It means having the courage to speak our truth, to ask for help when we need it, and to admit when we don’t have all the answers.

When we embrace vulnerability, we open ourselves up to deeper connections, both with ourselves and with others.

We increase our self-awareness, resilience and emotional intelligence when we are willing to be vulnerable.

Vulnerability fosters creativity, innovation and stronger relationships.

So let’s challenge ourselves this week to lean into discomfort, embrace vulnerability and see it not as a weakness, but a pathway to growth and fulfillment.

Let’s work together!

I help organizations and individuals build RESILIENCE in and out of the workplace!
